Dr. Atif B. Malik

Dr. Atif Malik grew up in Houston, Texas. He graduated cum laude from Houston Baptist University, where he studied Chemistry, Biology and Fine Arts. He completed his residency program in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Baylor College of Medicine. In addition to being named Chief Resident there, Dr. Malik was the recipient of the prestigious Oliver R. Smith Jr., M.D. award for excellence in training, among other honors. Dr. Malik also completed an Interventional Pain Fellowship at Harvard Medical School and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.

Dr. Malik's professional association memberships include: the Minimally Invasive Spine Society, North American Spine Society, the International Association for the Study of Pain, the American Pain Society, the Maryland Society of PM&R and the Montgomery County Medical Society. He has also served as a faculty teacher in Functional Discography, Kyphoplasty, Lumbar Endoscopic Discectomy, as well as various other procedures. In addition, he has authored peer reviewed journal articles, scientific abstracts, reviews, and book chapters on the topic of Pain Medicine, and maintains an active schedule that includes professional presentations and lecturing.

Dr. Malik's approach to the treatment of chronic and complex pain conditions is to utilize interventional and medical management to help his patients become more functional and productive. He believes that a multidisciplinary, multi-modality, including interventional pain blocks, rational poly-pharmacy, physical therapy, relaxation techniques, biofeedback, and psychological treatment, when used appropriately, achieve the best outcome for his patients.

Dr. Malik is still very interest in the fine arts, especially Racu pottery, print-making and photography. However, these days these interests have been put on hold due to his very active young son, who takes center stage in all aspects of his life.
